Key Points About Botox

  • Botox Cosmetic is offered to smooth wrinkles and fine lines — especially on the forehead, between the brows, and around the eyes — giving a more youthful, refreshed look.

  • Treatments are quick and minimally invasive, with injections completed in just a few minutes and no long downtime.

  • Results typically begin within 24 hours, with full effect around 10–14 days, and generally last about 3–4 months.

  • The practice emphasizes maintaining natural facial expressions — so patients “still look like you,” just with fewer wrinkles.

  • Botox is only one part of a broad cosmetic dermatology offering; the practice also provides many other services (fillers, lasers, aesthetic treatments), giving patients a full-spectrum approach to skin care.

Relieve Lines On The Forehead & Around The Eyes.

Are you troubled by the appearance of fine lines or wrinkles? Botox Cosmetic could be the answer if you want to look your best and love what you see in the mirror. Golden State Dermatology offers this to our patients to help them look younger, more radiant, and refreshed.

What is Botox Cosmetic?

Botox Cosmetic is made from botulinum toxin type A. It’s injected into the skin to temporarily improve the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines, such as crow’s feet, frown lines, and furrows between the brows.

Botox Cosmetic injections only take a few minutes to administer by one of the expert clinicians at Golden State Dermatology. It may take 24 hours to start seeing results, and full results can be seen in 10-14 days.

Most patients notice results for 3-4 months before they require another Botox Cosmetic treatment.

How Does Botox Cosmetic Work?

Your Golden State Dermatology practitioner will inject Botox Cosmetic into specific muscles. Botox Cosmetic then helps block signals from the nerves to the muscles.

Blocking these signals causes them to relax and soften any wrinkles in that area. Each Botox Cosmetic treatment is customized to the patient and depends on factors like how deep and severe the wrinkles are and what areas will be treated.

After you’ve received treatment, it usually takes several days to start noticing the effects of Botox Cosmetic and up to two weeks to see the full results. Because it is a temporary treatment, results last 3-4 months on average before you’ll need your next one.

With maintenance, if you continue receiving Botox Cosmetic, the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles will look diminished and be less noticeable. However, maintaining the results of Botox Cosmetic is not required or necessary. If you choose not to maintain your results, your facial movements and the fine lines and wrinkles will begin to return as they did before you began using Botox Cosmetic.

When Botox Cosmetic is administered by an expert practitioner, like ours at Golden State Dermatology, you’ll continue looking like you. You’ll still have facial expressions but without fine lines and wrinkles that contribute to a less youthful appearance.

Who is a Good Candidate for Botox Cosmetic?

Botox Cosmetic can significantly change the appearance of your skin’s age, but you may wonder if it’s right for you. You may be a good Botox Cosmetic candidate if:

  • You’re at least 18 years old
  • You’re in good health
  • You’re not currently pregnant or nursing
  • You want to soften the appearance of moderate to severe wrinkles and fine lines around your eyes, between your brows, and forehead lines
  • You have realistic expectations about what Botox Cosmetic can achieve

If you think you could be a good candidate for Botox Cosmetic, schedule a consultation at Golden State Dermatology at one of our convenient locations in the Western US!

Relax Your Facial Muscles with Dysport

Similar to Botox Cosmetic, Dysport is a prescription injection derived from botulinum toxin type A. It blocks nerve signals to relax facial muscles and smooth out wrinkles.

Like Botox Cosmetic, each Dysport treatment is customized, depending on your facial anatomy and desired results. Dysport may spread out more from its initial location, which your Golden State Dermatology provider will account for.

Dysport results usually last about 3-4 months before requiring your next injection. Dysport injections are performed in-office and are minimally invasive, so you can go back to your typical routine and activities after receiving them.

With Dysport, you can look forward to relaxing your wrinkles while still having natural facial expressions and looking like yourself.

What Is the Difference Between Botox Cosmetic and Fillers?

Two treatments often confused with each other are dermal fillers and Botox Cosmetic. Although they are both injectable treatments with cosmetic benefits for wrinkles, they are not the same.

Botox Cosmetic relaxes your muscles to help smooth out fine lines and wrinkles on your face. Botox Cosmetic does this by reducing the amount of repetitions of facial expressions that cause lines and wrinkles. But fillers don’t affect facial muscles at all.

Instead, dermal fillers add volume to fill in wrinkles and lines and can be used to fill in areas that look sunken due to the natural aging process. As skin ages, it loses its elasticity, volume, and ability to bounce back, which is where dermal fillers come in.

Hyaluronic Acid

Fillers are often made from hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid is naturally produced by your skin, helping it stay hydrated and plump. But with aging, you lose hyaluronic acid, making your skin drier and less plump leading to more wrinkles or hollower, sunken areas.

Calcium Hydroxyapatite

Calcium hydroxyapatite is a mineral compound with a density similar to bones and teeth. When it’s injected under the skin, it safely creates volume that aging skin may lack. It also stimulates natural collagen growth to rejuvenate the skin.

These fillers are safe because your body naturally absorbs them over several months. Fillers restore volume and fullness your face is no longer able to produce.

You can use them to plump your lips, lift sagging cheeks or jawlines, smooth out smile lines, and soften vertical lip lines. After fillers, you’ll look more refreshed, vibrant, and awake.

You won’t have to worry about a long recovery with fillers either, since there’s little to no downtime after having them injected. Some swelling and bruising may occur depending on the location the filler is injected.

Smooth Moderate to Severe Lines Between the Brows with Daxxify

Daxxify is another brand of neurotoxin recently made available. It was specifically developed to treat the area between the eyebrows, with results lasting about six months for most patients. Daxxify helps temporarily smooth glabellar lines, which are the frown lines that form between the eyebrows.

Daxxify blocks muscle movement signals to relax frowning muscles, helping you look more relaxed and at ease. If you have stubborn vertical frown lines between your eyebrows, Daxxify may be worth considering. In some patients, Daxxify’s effects may last longer than other injectable wrinkle relaxers.
